Donovan Loucks' Favorite Places
This is my list of favorite places on The Web. Yeah, I could do this via
bookmarks, but what if I'm away from my machine at home?
- Artists -- I became interested in both Escher and Giger years
before it was "cool" to like them.
- Maurits Cornelis Escher
- H. R. Giger
- Authors
- Bibliographic Databases -- I may end up designing my own in
FoxPro, and use these others as reference. If one of these suffices, I'll
just use it.
- Film Directors
- Stanley Kubrick
(Patrick J. Larkin) -- The director of such great films as
Spartacus, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange,
and The Shining. Wow!
- Films
- Fonts and Graphics
- Internet Reference
- Musical Groups
- The Cult
(Jon Taylor)
--
- Billy Idol
(Carole Page) -- There's finally an Official Billy Idol Home Page.
- The Police (Dan
Gorelick) -- Sting's vocals, Andy Summers' guitar licks, and Stewart
Copeland's jackhammer drumwork. It's a damn shame they broke up...
- The Sisters of Mercy -- I didn't discover The Sisters of
Mercy until late 1995, but when I did, I went nuts over them.
- Tangerine Dream
(Official) -- The theme music from Risky Business turned me on to
this group. Their music is good for any occasion, from driving to working
to...you know.
- People I Know
- Derek Hohls
-- Derek lives in South Africa and has blindtested my card game, The
Game Game. He set this page up for an organization known as Science
Fiction South Africa.
- John Kittelsrud -- John
is an electronics wizard that I used to see just about every weekend, but
since he's moved I haven't seen him at all! He's amazed me many a time
with feats of technology.
- Daniel Madero -- Dan is
a database consultant that I work with every day, and a damn good one at
that. However, he probably has the worst luck of any individual I know;
perhaps he'll write about it on his web page one day.
- Charles Myler -- Charles
is one of my friends that I get together to play boardgames with every
other weekend. He has a fascination with Japanese culture, and his web
page deals mainly with his trips to Japan.
- Grant Stewart -- Grant
is another FoxPro programmer that I work with every day. He's pretty
snappy!
- Phoenix, Arizona -- My home town
- Arizona Highways -- Not only
the home page for the magazine, but a "Virtual Tour" of Arizona as well.
- Arizona's WebHub --
- INTELLiCast: Phoenix
Weather -- Check the forecast for the next four days and view weather
satellite images and movies.
- Restaurant Guides -- I thought of this idea back in 1986, but
the proper medium for it (the Internet) didn't yet exist. Now it does,
and at least two folks have beaten me to the punch. Story of my life...
- Buzz Club Phoenix
(Enternet Corporation)-- Includes a clickable map and will eventually
allow searches to within a mile of a pair of cross-streets.
- Phoenix Metro
Restaurant Guide (AzMetro.Com) -- Really just a bunch of lists, but
still informational.
- Reference Materials
- Services
- Television Shows
- Friends
(Andy J. Williams) -- An attractive home page for this runaway sitcom.
- Late Show with
David Letterman (CBS) -- Including a searchable archive of all
the Top Ten Lists.
- Twin
Peaks (Jon Yager) -- Despite having a gaudy background, it's probably
the best Twin Peaks page around.
- Vacation Spots
- Disneyland (Douglas
Krause) -- Plenty of pictures of Disneyland!
- Find-A-Grave (Jim
Tipton) -- A lot of people think that graveyards are a weird place to go.
But many of them are beautiful plant and animal preserves filled with
historic monuments to great people. Find the final resting places of some
of those people and pay your respects.
- Mystic Seaport Museum, Mystic,
Connecticut -- I was there on my New England trip, but it was
closing in an hour and admission was $16! I'll not miss it in 1997!
- The Old Court Bed & Breakfast, Providence, Rhode Island -- Two web
pages exist for this lovely B&B. One is kept by First
Traveler's Choice and the other is kept by TravelASSIST.
- Rhode Island World Wide Web
Resources (Andrew Green) -- Find out the current weather (and
forecasts) for Rhode Island, as well as links to local universities and
organizations.
- Women
- Madchen
Amick (Dan Boardman) This lovely actress played Shelley the
waitress in Twin Peaks.
- Jennifer Connelly (Jean
Bergeron) This gal has talents like you never imagined...
- Sherilyn
Fenn (Dan Boardman) This better-known (and just as lovely)
actress played Audrey Horne in Twin Peaks.
- Jean Louisa Kelly
(Christopher Rivers) -- This beautiful young woman is best known for her roles as
the MCI operator and Rowena Morgan in "Mr. Holland's Opus".
- World Wide Web Reference Materials
- World Wide Web Search Engines
- Other Stuff
